Read Our Spoiler-Free Review For Nightflyers on Netflix (TV Series)
The Netflix Original TV Series “Nightflyers” is a good show, albeit somewhat flawed. I’m not going to get into the spoilers, see our other article on that, but let’s put it this way, they jump skip and throw around timelines like nobody’s business which, in the words of Kevin Bridges, “puts a dampener” on the show!
Now here at Yaaas! we love a good sci-fi show and Nightflyers would have generally succeeded if it did not have a number of fatal flaws that made us start flagging as we got further into the show.
The Nightflyers Cast
First a foremost, some of the main cast if fab! Angus Sampson, who plays the lead role of Rowan, is as lovable and awesome as ever! I wanted a second series just to see more screen time of him! His hyper-iltelligent onscreen chemistry with co-lead Eoin Macken, who plays Karl D’Branin, is utterly fantastic! You really feel like they are on the brink of exciting achievements. You truly believe their excitement, their stress, their sadness and their joy. Nightflyers is worth watching just to see Angus Sampson and Eoin Macken’s onscreen chemistry. I honestly cannot begin to explain how much I enjoyed their scenes.

Netflix’s Nightflyers is a worthwhile watch because it honestly does take the story to some interesting places and questions the possible motive of aliens and their motives. There are a number of worthwhile subplots and a cool extended cast including Murphy and Tobis. Thale’s powers are pretty awesome and early storyline arcs of Thale’s relationship with the rest of the crew are worthy payoffs.
The Nightflyers Story
Nightflyers is based on the novella by George R. R. Martin who wrote the rather well known Game of Thrones books. However this book goes way back to 1980, in which a film adaption was made in 1987, and now Netflix & Syfy have made over 20 years later in 2018, or 2019 for the UK release, made a TV adaption.
The storyline is interesting and has an arc that follows some fantastic interactions between the cast, however, the great parts of the show are often interrupted by rather uninteresting and somewhat irrelevant story lines that more often than not, involves a variety of subplots that include Lommie and Auggie.
Nightflyers Netflix Review Conclusion:
Yaaas! Score: Yaaaaaaas! (7 a’s out of 10).
Is Nightflyers Worth Watching?
Nightflyers had a promising start and an interesting premise, with Thale, Rowan and D’Branin as interesting characters, however it sadly did not live up to the mark on a number of accounts in pulling all the pieces together to craft a successful show; with too many subplots that led nowhere, a bizarrely chosen cold open, and a bunch of characters like Cynthia, Auggie and Lommie that just took screen time away from characters that mattered.
There was so much potential for Nightflyers, they just managed to go too far off course and land in a different galaxy than they intended.
