Remembrance Day 2018: Remembering the Fallen in Liverpool

Lest we forget.

1918 – 2018.

I wanted to write this article to remember the fallen.

This year, 2018, marks 100 years since the end of World War One.

I want to take a moment to remember those brave soldiers that gave their

lives so that we could live our lives.

Over 6 million British soldiers were sent to war.

Over 700,000 British soldiers gave their lives over 4 long years of conflict.

In Liverpool, over 13,000 soldiers gave their lives.

Those that sacrificed so much were sadly not just those that died during the war, there are also those that were willing to die for their country, who went out to war and survived. They were willing to give up their lives during the war, in doing so, they gave their memories. They saw horrendous things, horrifying things, friends and family dying in front of their eyes. They saw things that no-one should ever have to see. Sadly, they did, and for that, they deserve to be remembered and honoured.

I cannot begin to comprehend even a fraction of what anyone during that time period went through. Anyone who fought during the war, or anyone who was at home worried sick about their loved ones during the time. It would be foolish of me to say I did understand what they went through. At my age (22), I cannot wrap my head around going to fight a war, never mind at the age of 18 or… at any age for that matter.
I pray that we may never go through what they sadly endured and sacrificed.

They will never be forgotten.
